Giuseppe Guarneri’s “Quarestani” violin belongs to the late 17th-century Cremonese tradition. Made around 1689 and attributed to the workshop of Giuseppe Guarneri, son of Andrea Guarneri, this violin reflects the strong influence of the Amati school while showing the maker’s own refinements. Its form carries the balanced outline and careful proportion associated with old Cremona.
The 1689 Quarestani violin stands between the mature Amati tradition and the later rise of Stradivari’s work. Preserved in the records of the Museo del Violino in Cremona, it remains an important example of how violin making was developing in Europe during this period. Its design shows a clear link between inherited craftsmanship and the new ideas that shaped the next generation of makers.
